This is the story of a group of my friends who were affected by the flood.
They live in Sunnyside, and on that day and in the weeks that followed, my family and many other friends worked very hard to save the Sunnyside Housing Co-op houses. It took over two weeks of shift work (day and night) to save the homes. Our group delivered food, clean water, clothing, and rags for cleaning. We also provided child care and organized funds in a bank account to buy dehumidifiers to dry out the molding walls of the homes. We were the lucky ones, our homes were intact, but our dear friends in Sunnyside were traumatized then, and still now they remember those days of uncertainty and fear. Today they are celebrating, and my family and friends who helped save their homes are celebrating with them.
